Pippin is a really fun show to design with all of the Circus elements, room for great dance lighting and kind of the open feel of the set. We used a Kabuki drop as a cyc/projection surface and at the end of the show it drops when they start to pack up the stage after Pippin refuses to go through with the finale. I was able to create some great aerial effects using some movers on 10’ truss. I really stretched my design aesthetic to include some concert style lighting I don’t normally get to do in a theatre piece. The Director did a fun thing for part of the With You dance break using a large hookah. My favorite light cue is the nice simple intimate moment of Pippin and Catherine singing With You in a pair of back lights and a single spot light.
