Scenic Design by Eric Maher

Lighting Design by Neil Koivu

For this production, we embraced a minimalist set design with the band featured prominently on stage, creating an intimate and immersive atmosphere. As the resident company, Nicely Theatre Group—named after a character from Guys and Dolls—inspired me to push the boundaries of lighting design to reflect the energy and charm of the show.

We extended the stage apron to accommodate dynamic choreography, blending function with aesthetic design. Key scenic elements included custom-built illuminated sign boxes for Times Square, evoking the bustling vibrancy of New York City, and a simple yet elegant flying window for the mission scene.

Lighting played a central role in setting the mood for each scene. I really tried to use very saturated colors to make everything pop. For the sewer sequence, we introduced a low fog generator, creating a distinct and atmospheric visual contrast from the rest of the show. These elements, combined with precise lighting cues, enriched the storytelling and heightened the audience’s experience.
